"A Different Kind of Ladies' Night" at the Fab Lounge
1st-Oct-2008 08:24 am
Dressy
((OOC: Open to female characters only due to the nature of the event. Sorry, fellas!))

It's Friday night, and Nuriko nurses a Kirin at The Fab Lounge, watching as two other women chatter easily with one another. **Am I ever going to be able to do that? They make it seem so easy.**

She brushes a stray strand of hair out of her face and takes a deep breath. **Let's give this a try.** She makes her way into the crowd, exchanging pleasantries and hoping for something more.

Amy makes her way through the crowd. She's wearing a form-fitting red Chinese dress with golden dragons. **I'm glad I got this altered. Still too small in the chest, but I would have never gotten into this if she hadn't let it out.**

Heading for the bar, she works her way around a pair of women busy talking with each other and bumps into another dark-haired young woman. "Sorry!" she says, loudly enough to carry over the noise.

"Sorry," Nuriko replies automatically. Then she gets a closer look at the young woman who bumped into her. **Is that-? It is!**

She smiles. "Amy, right? It's Nuriko - from the dojo." Pause. "You look very nice tonight." **Very nice, indeed, she thinks as her gaze lingers a bit on Amy's chest. Admonishing her heart - as well as other portions of her anatomy - to keep still, she asks, "Um, could I buy you a drink?"
4th-Oct-2008 12:55 pm (UTC)
"Sure! And thanks. I was just heading to the bar," Amy says, checking out Nuriko.
6th-Oct-2008 12:18 pm (UTC)
Nuriko returns to the bar with Amy, and gets the bartender's attention. "Her drink is on me, all right?"

Once Amy has her order, she returns to sipping her Kirin and covertly enjoys the view. "So, do you like classes at the dojo so far?"
6th-Oct-2008 10:32 pm (UTC)
Amy orders a Harp, taking a drink of it when it arrives

"I think I like them," Amy says. "Sorta strange, but that's not bad. I'm an adventurous gal, so I'm pretty open to new things," she says, giving Nuriko a smile.

"So, how did you come to work at the dojo?"
7th-Oct-2008 12:33 pm (UTC)
Nuriko takes another drink to buy herself a little time. "Well...Akira isn't really related. Not by blood, anyway. But he's still like a big brother to me, so I call him 'Niisan' - that means 'big brother' in Japanese." Pause. "When he opened the dojo, I started working for him in exchange for lessons - I wanted to learn how to defend myself, and I...didn't have much money," **More like 'no' money....** "so he lets me work there in exchange for teaching me." She sighs. "And I'm talking too much about myself. Sorry." She smiles. "Tell me about you - do you live around here? Or are you going to school?"
7th-Oct-2008 11:41 pm (UTC)
"You're not talking too much about yourself," says Amy. She grins wryly. "Believe me, I've heard TMI, and that's something coming from me."

Amy takes a drink before she continues, "I'm from the 'burbs. I park at the Bethesda station when I want to come in. And I'm a student. And enough about me for the moment," she says with a wink.

"So from what you said, you're Japanese. Or at least Japanese ancestry, 'cause your English sounds better than mine. And with what you said about Akira, I'm going to guess you're on your own." She eyes Nuriko appraisingly. "You can't be too much older than I am. I'm going to guess you go to college arond here."

Smiling, she gives Nuriko a questioning look.
9th-Oct-2008 05:19 pm (UTC)
"Yes, I was born in Kyoto," Nuriko replies. "I grew up in Himeiji, though." She pauses, remembering a little house, a smiling mother and father, a room decorated in pretty pastels, with anime posters on the wall.... **But that's not my home anymore...not since he stole my life.** She squashes the memory of a handsome, red-haired man with eyes like golden flames and focuses instead on the dark-haired young woman before her.

"I'm not really on my own just yet," she continues. "I live with Akira when I'm not at Georgetown."
9th-Oct-2008 10:28 pm (UTC)
"Kyoto... Japan! Neat." Amy grins. "You're lucky some of my classmates aren't here. They're nuts over all things Japanese."

"So do you think things in the US are that different from in Japan?"
12th-Oct-2008 01:28 pm (UTC)
..."You're lucky some of my classmates aren't here. They're nuts over all things Japanese."

Nuriko grins at that. "Some of my classmates are that way, too. There's one girl in my Western Civilization class that wants to learn Japanese so she can go to Japan and be a voice actress." She giggles. "She's silly."

"So do you think things in the US are that different from in Japan?"

Some things are different, but some things are the same no matter where you are," Nuriko replies. "I hear that school is easier here, until you get into college - then it's harder than it is in Japan." She smiles then. "Of course, people are much more accepting of people who are...different her in the United States." She waves a hand to indicate the women around them in the club. "I don't have to hide what I am here." **Well, not that part of me, anyway.**
12th-Oct-2008 02:46 pm (UTC)
Amy grins wryly. "They aren't always that accepting. Tell some of 'em around here that you like guys too, and they don't want to have a thing to do with you."

**There, got that out of the way. I like her, but if she can't handle that, there's no sense in wasting our time.**
12th-Oct-2008 03:43 pm (UTC)
Nuriko digests that. "What's wrong with liking men?" she asks, looking puzzled. "I like Akira, and he's a guy."

Then she understands the nuance of the word 'like' in this case, and blinks. "Oh. I think I understand now. There are some people at school who don't want to go to GUPride meetings because they don't like men at all." She shakes her head. "I don't understand that, but I guess things are different here." She chuckles. "I guess the best way to put it would be, I like men, but I don't want to have sex with one. Does that help?"

Amy manages not to laugh, though her smile is obvious.

Amy nods afimatively. "It helps. You're not upset that I like sex with guys, so it's good and we can get on with more important things."
13th-Oct-2008 02:00 pm (UTC)
Nuriko nods. "So...what else do you like to do for fun?" She quirks a self-deprecating sort of smile. "I haven't been here long, so I'm still getting the...um...'lie of the land?'"
15th-Oct-2008 01:15 am (UTC)
Amy grins and gestures at the room and her drink. "This seems to how I've been spending my spare time lately. More in clubs with music, but all I seem to meet is guys then. And guys, well, they're fun for a night, but most of'em couldn't hold a conversation if their life depended on it. I figured I'd find a more sophicated crowd here." She gives Nurico a smile. "And it looks like I was right."
16th-Oct-2008 12:17 am (UTC)
The smile makes Nuriko feel warm all over. As a jaunty tune starts in over the sound system, she holds out a hand to the other girl. "Would you like to dance?"
16th-Oct-2008 12:28 am (UTC)
"I'd be happy to," Amy replies with a smile and takes Nuriko's hand.
16th-Oct-2008 11:27 am (UTC)
"That was fun," says Amy with a smile. "But if I don't leave soon, I'm going to miss my last train home. I would really would like to spend some more time with you though," she says earnestly.
17th-Oct-2008 08:36 pm (UTC)
"I'd like that, too," Nuriko replies, smiling. She pulls a tiny notebook from her purse, quickly writes something on it with a red and gold pen, then tears the sheet off and passes it to Amy. "That's my cell phone number. Give me a call." She pauses. "So, um...do you like Thai food? I was thinking that maybe we could go to Thai Coast together sometime."
18th-Oct-2008 12:51 am (UTC)
"I'd love that," Amy says, smiling back at Nuriko as she takes the sheet from her. Amy opens her pocketbook and carefully tucks the paper in it. "If you have time, I'm free before my lessons, and if not , there's always the weekend."

"Now I just have my pocketbook, but if you lend me your pen and notebook, I'll give you my cell."
21st-Oct-2008 10:35 pm (UTC)
Looking very happy indeed, Nuriko extends both pen and notebook to Amy.
